Life’s daily routines often revolve around commitments to others—family, friends, work deadlines, and societal expectations. All of these responsibilities can be draining. By the end of the day, when your head hits the pillow, you’re exhausted and ready to call it a day. Being a provider and helping others is rewarding, but it also takes a toll. Stress, anxiety, and the fear of failure can drain your social energy or leave you feeling emotionally depleted.
In times like these, it’s crucial to prioritize moments for yourself.
I categorize these moments into three groups:
“Embracing Unconventional Self-Care: Doing Things Just for You”
Explore the importance of engaging in activities solely for personal enjoyment and fulfilment, even if they are unconventional or against societal norms. Simple things like:
- A morning cup of coffee—my personal favourite. Sipping it in silence, looking out the window, brings pure joy.
- A hot chocolate on your way to work or blasting Drake in your ears as you drive, dancing off your bed, and even taking a lunchtime nap. I’m not suggesting you do these things every day, but certain actions that bring you joy and purpose in the journey called ‘adulting’.
“Mindful Living: Integrating Daily Practices for Inner Peace”
Explore various mindfulness techniques such as breathwork, yoga, meditation, and physical activities like workouts and stretches. Discover how these practices can foster mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being.
I believe certain activities benefit the mind, while others enhance physical well-being. Try combining both in a fun way—sign up for a yoga meditation class or a morning boxing session, whichever suits your personality. Taking time for yourself, no matter how small, leaves you feeling rejuvenated. These are the things we know are good for us but can be challenging to start. Remember, half the battle is showing up—with your yoga mat or a pillow for a morning mantra meditation. These activities are essential for achieving inner peace, clarity, patience, and joy. I like to think of these practises as, the body is not having an experience living this life, it is the soul which is using the body to have a meaningful human experience in this lifetime. Some grounding activities for the inner you.
“Feel-Good Habits for Sustainable Happiness”
Highlight activities that bring immediate joy and contribute positively to long-term happiness and health:
- A 7-step skincare routine, journaling, regular walks, opting for healthier food choices, listening to podcasts while doing chores, reconnecting with old friends for that human touch, and trying new workshops weekly to break your routine—anything that sparks the childlike joy within you. Express yourself through art.
Healing practices may seem like a lot of work, but when viewed as self-care—nurturing the child within, benefiting your mind and soul—they become more accessible. I understand starting a new practice can be intimidating, whether it’s committing long-term or attending a workshop alone. Remember, you are your own best companion. If you’d support someone else in trying something new, extend that same kindness to yourself. It’s challenging to appreciate your daily efforts, hug oneself, or to clap for yourselves, when they may not seem significant to others. Know that embracing a little dance on your way to work can make life more enjoyable than just walking.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far. Your attention means the world to me as we learn and grow together. If no one has reminded you today, I believe in you, I have faith in you, and I love you
